Credit Unions
Credit Unions, first introduced to Ireland in 1958, were based on a philosophy of mutual self-help, at a time when Ireland was suffering high unemployment and mass emigration. Now there are over 520 Credit Unions affiliated to the Irish League of Credit Unions in the 32 counties. A further twenty large Credit Unions are members of another representative body, the Credit Union Development Association (CUDA).
In Ireland over 2.6 million members have recognized the value of Credit Union membership and have savings in the order of €9 Billion with their Credit Unions. There are over 10,000 active volunteers involved in the movement, and over 1,000 are employed. Despite the improved economic circumstances of the country, the initial ethos of self-help is still the key driver of Credit Unions.
PSCubed, as the only certified Temenos partner in Ireland, is currently refining the TEMENOS eMerge (T24 system) for use in the Irish Credit Union market. Although previously undertaken, we are confident, that our particular expertise, coupled with our knowledge of the Irish market, can help us successfully implement this powerful centrally-managed solution in the Credit Union environment. Already, the system is used in 50 micro finance institutions worldwide , while the fuller eMerge product (T24) has been chosen by the United Nations Credit Union as their centrally managed system.
